New York State’s Association of Substance Abuse Providers (ASAP) is once again hosting Advocacy Days, which provide those involved in service provision for substance use disorders (SUD) the opportunity to meet with elected officials to promote the importance of these services. This year, ASAP Advocacy Days are scheduled to take place March 4-5, 2014 in Albany, NY at the New York State Capitol. The National Council for Behavioral Health encapsulated the importance of days such as these when it said, “Engaging and developing relationships with your members of Congress and other elected officials is key to improving community mental health and addiction services.” Today’s climate, in which the prevalence of prescription drug and heroin use/overdose is increasing while the amount of government funding for services to combat this epidemic is decreasing, makes it all the more important to show our support for addiction services in NYS.
All interested service providers, entities, and supporters are encouraged to attend! For more information and to register for this event, visit the ASAP event website here.
